Yeehaw -- I'm in this month's issue! I gave tips #12 and #13.
20 Character Design Tips

Job title: Senior graphic designer
Location: Boston, MA
URL: www.mimoco.com

12: Shaping Up
"The shape of our toy USB flash drive is very distinct. It can be a challenge to design a character that adheres to the form while at the same time isn't a slave to it, especially when working with well-known characters. Don't get bogged down with all the details and just pick out a few key ones."

13: Form + function = funk?
"Keep in mind how the design will work with the way it functions. Our USB drive isn't a stationary object, and the user interacts with it. Should the main body of the object include the face intact so that, when it's plugged into a port, the uder can see the character looking up? Or should the face be on the cap instead?"

Boston's Cut & Paste Digital Design Tournament: The Aftermath

The tournament was awesome!!! :D

Even though I got robbed of the semi-finals, I'm not too overly disappointed because (a) I did my best, (b) I did what I normally do, (c) I felt strongly about my concept, and (d) so many people came out to root me on even though it was for only 15 minutes. :)

The Almighty Dollar I have to admit that I felt like a super star. My mom and bro came out; my bf hung out with me the entire time (from @ss crack early sign-in until the end); my gal pal was rooting me on; my teammates were yelling out my name; and my boss and co-workers showed up too.

I also met some amazing designers and got to see first-hand their process, which is invaluable. And, it didn't hurt that as a finalist I received the full Adobe Creative Suite 3 edition as well as a gift laptop back pack full of design goodies.

Just making it past entering my name for consideration was a kick. But, to also make it past the test rounds to become one of 8? You mean I beat out others to make it? Sweet.

At least my brother thought I was a shoe-in for the semi-finals. :)

This was beyond what I ever dreamed and I can't wait to see what's up next.
