tokidoki for Hello Kitty

I'm just not feeling the tokidoki for Hello Kitty line.

It's too blingin' + gold for me; color combos of gold, green & white are blah blah blah; and the purses are blah as well -- do I really want to carry around a bag with a big honkin' graphic of Hello Kitty as Sandy? No.

I am truly disappointed. Could have been a truly kick@ss collaboration.

Johnny Cupcakes @ BLS

Check out Johnny Cupcakes' visit to Boston Latin School -- my alma mater!

Granted, the art department rejected me -- losers!!! -- but spending 6 years at that school prepped me for college well. College was a breeze compared to Boston Latin School.

Anyhow, it is a great public school in Boston -- if you can pass the exam to get in that is AND if you are a resident of Boston. Kinda snooty -- principal is referred to as 'headmaster' and mine at the time was majorly disappointed that the bulk of my fellow classmates who didn't make it into the ivy leagues decided to go to UMass Amherst (a state college) versus more prestigious institutions, i.e. Boston University.

Who has 30k-40k to drop per year for college? Besides, when you graduate, it doesn't even matter.

But, I am SO jealous that those students got to hear Johnny Cupcakes speak!

50 Illustrator Tutorials Every Designer Should See

Here's a nice round-up for reference from Spoon Graphics. It's one of the many design reference sites that I've discovered recently. In case anyone is interested, I'll be posting up a gigantic list of sites I visit soon.

Anyhow, I have a lot of catch-up to do this weekend -- a blitz of design links to check out, tutorial refreshers/new lessons, and basically just bombarding my brain with as much info as possible.

Ah yes, my master plan to become a really gawd damn good designer/illustrator/artist.

Oh oh oh. I love the idea of the graphic -- simple, effective, and self-explanatory.

tokidoki for MIMOBOT - Love is in the Air

Check out the new color-way just in time for Valentine's Day -- Pink Meletta. The color-way kicks @ss if I do say so myself...*ahem ahem* being that I was the one who came up with the color scheme.

Copy Catter Make You Fatter!

Talk about totally ripping a design off.

The daughters of Reverend Run, aka of famed Run DMC, have come out with their own clothing line called Pastry. Not bad...unless you start ripping off on other designs!

If I were Johnny Cupcakes, I would tell these biyatches, "Puh-lease!" I hated people who copied my stick figure doodles in 2nd grade and I will continue to hate on people who copy to this day and beyond.

You can be inspired by a design, which everyone has been. But to blatantly steal a concept and design and art? F@ckin' blasphemy!

To which I will get on my soapbox about celebrity "designers."

Look, you are NOT a designer if all you're doing is putting this pre-existing cut of a tee-shirt with this other pre-existing form of a skirt and color matching. And you are NOT a designer if you have hired someone else to do all the sketching for you.

That is what we call styling. Hence, you are a stylist -- NOT a designer. Do not use the term designer when you haven't done what it takes to be one -- which involves creating something from nothing...and the ability to, perhaps, do your own sketching and construction. For reference, please watch Project Runway.

Too many stylists these days posing as designers. Just stop.

Dragoman

So with CS3 on the Mac, you can't really open .pcd files. Maybe you can, but I haven't been able to, which has been super annoying. But, I found a really fantastic program for the Mac called Dragoman to assist.

It costs $26, but you can try it out with the free trial download.

It has become my lifesaver as some people feel the need to continue sending .pcd files. What's wrong with jpgs, psds, pdfs and tiffs? Jeez.

Gucci by Gucci

I love the soft, cool color scheme, the simplicity, and luxuriousness of the script typeface/styling used to soften it.

iPhone Wallpapers

Camilo Bejarano’s iPhone Wallpapers

Some inspiring iPhone wallpapers -- a great round-up by Smashing Magazine!

17" MacBook Pro

Oooh, can I have one?

I want to make the switch from PC to Mac. Considering that I have a sweet set-up at work -- an iMac + dual screen monitors + wacom tablet -- and I spend a gargantuan amount of time there, I've gone to the other side and am now in love with Macs. It makes working at home a bit harder...just don't like my PC anymore. It's a great machine, but after working off of two sweet monitors, it makes it hard to be happy with my dinky one.

*sigh*

More Pepsi Talk

Even more interesting conversation regarding the re-branding/design of Pepsi. I wonder how the actual designers behind it are taking this all in... And I am in total agreement with one of the commentators that "it looks like a spin off of the Obama logo."

But personally, during these economic times, I veer toward the gawd-awful ugly-@ss packaging designs because they scream out "I am CHEAP + inexpensive!" to me.

I do notice the nicer designs which I then automatically dismiss as being out of my price range because they look expensive. So I skip buying them.

Go figure.
