Yeehaw -- I'm in this month's issue! I gave tips #12 and #13.
20 Character Design Tips

12: Shaping Up
"The shape of our toy USB flash drive is very distinct. It can be a challenge to design a character that adheres to the form while at the same time isn't a slave to it, especially when working with well-known characters. Don't get bogged down with all the details and just pick out a few key ones."

13: Form + function = funk?
"Keep in mind how the design will work with the way it functions. Our USB drive isn't a stationary object, and the user interacts with it. Should the main body of the object include the face intact so that, when it's plugged into a port, the uder can see the character looking up? Or should the face be on the cap instead?"
