WTF!

WTF!

No, I'm not ranting. WTF stands for Work Time Fun.

I've been eyeing this game for the past few months and was finally able to score a used copy at a Gamestop yesterday. The verdict? I love it and it's super weird. It's mindless fun where you complete work tasks like capping as many pens correctly for as long as you want so that you can earn money to buy junk and get more jobs. And I don't know if it's just me or not, but the background track in the intro seems to be of a man being whipped relentlessly + without mercy.

I'm going to rank this game right alongside Lumines. There was a period of time where for a month I played Lumines non-stop...as in foregoing sleep. It was like crack.

And now, I shall go pop some more Aleve in the hopes of recovering from a night where I shouldn't have had that Tequila shot.

Communication Arts Illustration Competition + Appleseed

King and Queen and cover art by Lillian Chan
I entered the King & Queen Beautiful Decay ad and the scientific book cover into the Communication Arts Illustration Competition a few days ago. I hadn't even thought about entering anything until my fellow mimobot designer dropped the application form onto my desk. The deadline is today actually.

Appleseed Ex Machina
In other news, I finally got to watch Appleseed Ex Machina last night and it was...awesome. How bad@ss is Deunan? And not the dubbed over version, but the Japanese-speaking version? The CG was pure eye candy and the fight scenes were nice. I like watching anime flicks -- not series because I don't have the patience to watch 100+ episodes...(I hear how awesome Naruto and Bleach are, but I just can't). What I like most are the anime that depict females kicking @ss and in robot suits. :)

currently listening to: Usher's "In The Club" and some Keyshia Cole.

Comic Friday!

I'm kinda late with posting my comics, but this here is the latest one -- spankin' fresh.

A friend of mine commented on the 'Life at 30 (aka, 'knocked-up') strip. "I can't believe you wrote that! Do your parents read your comic?"

I think my dad does, but to what extent does he understand? I don't know. Do I want to know? No.

But definitely be on the look-out for a vamped up comic in the weeks to come and a new one that I will be unveiling. Exciting times, exciting times...

:)

note: currently listening to Stars and Miss Janet.

I Want CJ7!

CJ7
The mission I've given to my bro while he's traipsing around Malaysia is to find me a bootleg copy of Stephen Chow's latest flick CJ7.

Stephen Chow is a genius and I can't wait to see what else he's got up his sleeve.

Chow plays a widower who lives in a partly demolished house with his son (who is actually played by a girl, Xu Jiao). As Chow's character can't afford to buy a toy for the child, he finds a makeshift toy in the garbage and brings it back to his son. The toy is actually an alien and the aliens are desperate to get it back. Some rumours state that it is a "pet" rather than a "toy".

Inside the Moleskin: Page 35

Here's a new project I'm working on -- very recently inspired by my trip to the Grand Cayman Islands, which was super marvelous spent with super marvelous people.

Boogie Bunnies for XBOX 360

Boogie Bunnies for XBOX 360
Over home-brewed IPA beer (albeit, in a baby glass for me), chocolate fondue, and other tasty treats, I discovered Boogie Bunnies thanks to one of the gamer guests!

Boogie Bunnies for XBOX 360
This game totally kicks @ss especially if you're a fan of games like Tetris, Bubble Bobble, and Lumines. It's the same concept of matching colors, but with some crazy bunnies who yell out "Hello" and then break out into a group dance.

It's too cute!

I wish I had an XBOX 360...or they had a version for the Sony PSP.

SEAMLESS: Computational Couture

SEAMLESS: Computational Couture
(Here's the only good photo from my phone -- darn it!)

The show was lots of fun and mimoco was one of the sponsors of the event, which meant that I got in fo' free AND I was able to bypass the line that snaked all the way around the Museum of Science -- it was a sold-out event.

I was amazed at some of the creations:
  • outfits that produced sound through touch
  • umbrellas that you could contract in so as to avoid other umbrella-holders on the street
  • patterns that were based off of soundwaves
  • the most beautiful dress with flowers all over it
  • and a wide variety of LED configurations that were incorporated

The runway was via the escalators, which I thought was pretty neat.

International MANGA Award

ahhhh -- there's an international manga competition going on!

I wish that I'd heard about this sooner as the deadline is on 2/29. But, I'm going to try and get a submission in anyway.

Prize winners will fly out to Japan for about 10 days and attend the award ceremony. They will also meet with Japanese MANGA artists and visit publication companies in Japan.

Hell, I've got nothing to lose and a kick@ss Japan trip to gain. Sweet. I guess I'll start holing myself up in my studio once again. If it ends up being a bust, then I'll post it as a pdf for folk to enjoy. (However, if you don't enjoy it, then don't let me know. I like to live in my own bubble where everything I do is the shitz).

*note: so glad that I'm a myspacer + facebooker -- get all these cool announcements that I otherwise wouldn't know about at all *

Riding In Style

tokidoki X Ride
ahhh!

tokidoki snowboards + gear?!

If only my ankle would heal faster -- I've been sidelined from snowboarding activities for a few weeks now...dammit.

Oh, and, if only my wallet was a wee bit -- okay, a whole lot -- more fatter. I keep telling people that I have to start playing the lottery. It's time that I stop talking and start doing. Megamillions here I come!

*and it's pink too -- a fierce pink!*

Kelly Kapoor has a mimobot....

Domo x mimobot
the Domo X mimobot to be exact!

Kelly Kapoor
woohoo!
"...I bought this adorable flash drive. Domo Kun, or Hello Kitty's Pyschotic Boyfriend, as I call him, will hungrily eat up your hard work and saves it in his tummy until you need it later. All of sudden you take something totally nerdsville (backing up your important documents) and make into something fun."
Read more here.

If you don't know who Kelly Kapoor is (or rather, Mindy Kaling the actress who plays her), then you need to watch The Office...need.

L-O-V-E

Valentine's Day BearOMG!

This makes me not be ambivalent about Valentine's Day!

It looks so cute in that really rough and so-ugly-that-it-ends-up-being-cute way.

You can find it at Creature Co-op.

I want Red Girl

Red Girl Converse sneakersOh my gosh -- I want these sneakers! But, they're $52...

They do say that a percentage of the purchase price will be donated to The Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. So really, I'd be helping a really noble cause by buying and wearing them.

As one of my gal pals used to always say, "if everyone would just give me a dollar."

Or maybe, I should break out my acrylics and revamp my old chucks.

Life at 30

New comic is up.

Remember -- new comic is up every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. I post this because it's a reminder for myself mostly. I'm trying to not give the editor any more anxiety than necessary as I usually send him my work the day of. :)

Anyhow, I'm currently working on a new comic. Pieces of it are being formed and constructed in my Moleskin notebook...I love those things especially the regular un-lined ones where the paper is thinner.

A majority of the work is being done while I'm on the subway. It's the only time + place where I can totally focus. Unfortunately, I'm not riding the subway enough...oiy.
